Growing up on a farm in NW Iowa, I had plenty of opportunity to explore and pretend. My imagination was tickled every day by my surroundings. Between the cozy green hillsides, gentle flowing creeks, mysterious woods, and the imaginations of me and my friends, life was worry-free and full of adventure. I believed anything was possible and still do. Much of my inspiration stems from these memories.

Dipped in ink, using a quill pen to draw lends a hint of nostalgia to my work. It's a technique that I learned from my Mom who uses the same with her drawings. Having long been drawn to times gone by, I love the thought of bringing the past to life by using this very old method. Similarly, as an art form, silhouettes date back to the mid-18th century to early 19th century. There's something about these age-old methods that I just love.

My love for photography came when I bought my first dslr camera. A whole new layer of the world unfolded before me and in my hands was a tool that allowed me to capture it. I quickly began snapping photos, simply letting my eye guide the way. Over time, I found that capturing every day life is where I shine. Finding beauty and magic in the ordinary is what I love most.
